Chris Gilchrist
MANAGING DIRECTOR
BREAKIN | LOCKIN
Chris is the founder of Rhythm City, which was established in 2006 after the success of his dance crew, Beat-Breakers. Founded in 2002, Beat-Breakers became the most successful dance crew to emerge from Devon & Cornwall, holding the record for the most UDO South West Championship wins. The crew also made history as the only team to be crowned both UDO British and World Crew Battle Champions.
Driven by his desire to create a safe space for young people to train and learn various styles within the street dance genre, Chris launched Rhythm City to provide a platform for dancers to grow and thrive.
One of the longest-active street dancers in Plymouth, Chris has been a pivotal figure in the development of many of the region's dancers. His passion for dance extends beyond technique—he is committed to inspiring others to become the best version of themselves, not just in dance, but in life. Many of Plymouth’s street dancers can trace their journey back to Chris in some way.
Chris's impact extends beyond the dance community. He has received numerous accolades for his work in the community, including the Pride of Plymouth Award, Teacher of the Year, Local Hero, and a finalist nomination for the Pride of Britain Award. In 2022, he was honored as one of the Queen’s Baton Bearers for the Commonwealth Games.
